Seeing one of those big Christmas trees on the television will most definitely be a sight to remember as it is only once a year that Christmas trees get their chance to be displayed. Seeing it in real life is even more impressive especially at the Rockefeller Centre in New York where a 75 foot (or taller) Norway Spruce with branches filled with stunning multi colored blinking lights. If interested in the lighting ceremony of this gigantic tree, be at the Rockefeller Centre on the 28th November roughly around 8.50pm but after that night, any night until 8th January the tree will be fully decorated accompanied by a row of trumpeting angels in the Channel Gardens with ice skaters sliding around below the tree is just like a scene from a Hollywood movie.

2. Easter Parade

This entertaining parade takes place annually on the 23rd March, where parade participants where the most ridiculous of outfits but this is the only place where one would get away with looking outrageous! Even better, the outfits and costumes reach new heights every year! Used to be only for social elites but that is no longer the case, anyone and everyone are free to join in, that is of course if you wear an outfit that would sure to catch eyes and attention of spectators.

3. Tribeca Film Festival

Tribeca Film Festival originated from the ideas of Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff in response to the 9/11 terrorist attack, where over 200 films are screened within two weeks of the festival, it has proven to be very successful. 6. Macy’s 4th July Fireworks

4. Chelsea Gallery District

This is an area for those who love and appreciate the beauty of art. 5. Chelsea Market

This gigantic brick building between 15th and 16th Street used to be quarters of the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) from 1890 right until the late 1950’s. Though today, the ground floor has been transformed into a European style shopping market where merchants specialize in flowers, fine wine, kitchen supplies, Italian gelato, French pastries, produce and butchered meat. There are also many fine restaurants, live music and even tango dancing! These activities have to be checked because the time is not always set.

6. Hell’s Kitchen (Clinton)

This section of Midtown west has it fair shares of colourful history, after all look at the name of this place, where else in the world would you come close to a district called Hell’s Kitchen? Answer: New York City! Many years ago (and some feel it still goes on today) these blocks where connected to the New York underworld scene, and it was normal to see rival gangs settling out their differences. This is no longer an important issue today, as the real fight isn’t between rival gangs but between people fighting over luxury condos! Hell’s Kitchen had its renovation and now it is a very cool area that are occupied by young and upcoming business professionals, the old stores are now lavish boutiques, entertaining bars and decent restaurants. 7. Soho

This area is considered to be one of Manhattan’s youngest neighbourhoods, Soho is located on the southern area of Houston Street (apparently pronounced as House-ton). A wander around this area may make you think that this is an old, abandoned area of the city as endless rows of cast iron columns and outwardly abandoned warehouses but you will soon discover that it is actually one of the city’s trendiest areas. Modernized warehouse lofts with large windows, high ceilings and a big space very that has provent o be rather popular with the hip, younger crowd.

8. Union Square

Union Square has proven over many years that it is very popular amongst both locals and tourists. This area of town is surrounded by excellent restaurants and chic boutique shops. The park is home to the rather well-liked Greenmarket where virtually all types of botanical goods are available. 5. Empire State Building

6. Trinity Church

Description: This is New York’s first eve Anglican Parish, after numerous reconstructions and renovations over the years, the current church was sanctified on Ascension Day of 1846. 7. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Chef David Bouley did it again, this is another one of his prestigious restaurants. Bouley, like his other places, has a truly spectacular interior which is audaciously decorated. The location may be a little bizarre for a jazz club as jazz clubs are, as many would imagine it to be, a smoky, dimly light hideaway but this place give jazz clubs a whole new atmosphere. 9. Village Vanguard

One of the most recognized jazz venues of New York City, proudly boasting the fact that it used to be a local haunt for the likes of legendary Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane. It would be wrong if one were to overlook comedy clubs, especially in The Big Apple.
